OUR YEAR IS ON THE CALENDAR

For our 2nd cadette meeting this year we planned out our year. All meetings, trips, etc. I took all the badges, places the girls want to go, my own ideas and more put them on post it notes. Stuck them all over the room and let the girls put stars on the ones they want to do. Then we started with the one with the highest number of stars and put them on the calendar. We were able to fill 90% of our meetings, community events, holiday events and service unit annual events.

The girls chose them all, they are all becoming better at leading. I was missing 3 girls so they will have to live with what the other 4 chose for the year.

At the end of last year we started having each girl lead one badge for the troop. We only made it through one New Cuisines and we need to finish the last 2 requirements. Most of the girls have been excited about this.

I added a couple of "theme meetings" like pajama night, backwards night and western night where we will wear pjs to our meeting, conduct our meeting from end to beginning. Even at 13-14 they thought these would be fun.

We also have all the girls working on there Silver Award projects. Looking forward to seeing how these work out.

Cadette Woodworking

 

Tonights meeting we continued work on our

Woodworking badge.

I bought some 1x6x4 boards at lowes.

A few boxes of nails

and small hammers for each girly.

 

My husband came to the meeting and brought several different saws to show us how to cut wood.

 

We only had 2 out of 5 that were brave enough to

try the saw.

 

We cut the boards to 18 inches.

I printed out hearts and the state to give them a choice.

A couple of the girls did their own designs but the hearts and Arkansas turned out really cute.

I used 1 skien of cross stitch thread for my Arkansas.

 

The whole project cost about $2.50 per girl if you use your own hammers. I paid the $3 bucks so that each girl would have their own. They can use it later on projects, silver and gold awards, etc.

 

It was a great project and they enjoyed it.





COOKIES COOKIES COOKIES

I have to admit  I am already sick of cookies

luckily i have an amazing cookie mom so i don't have

to do much of anything except with my girl

the problem may be

that my spouse and i have over indulged in the cookies

as cadettes my girls seem to be having more trouble

getting in those pre sales and even cookie booths are

not as easy as when we were brownies or even juniors

people seem to have a misconception that girl scouts are

just little cute girls 8 and under

our first cookie booth was this past weekend and we sold

over 100 boxes but just in my 2 hour shift there were more

people that past on by than stopped to purchase.

1 more booth sale and we will be done for this year.

JAMAICA

Saturday we held our World Thinking Day Event.

Haiti- really cute booth, the leader had spent

a while there studying and had lots of authentic items

France was such a cute booth with little Brownie girls

England with their very own Queen.

The leader had made a red telephone booth

from duct tape that was brilliant!!!

Mexico- the table cloth, sombrero's, and little dolls were

actually mine and the leader had borrowed sometime

ago. She got more use out of them than i have.

I bought them on our honey moon to use as

table decor for special mealtimes. I think I did that once in 13 years.

 

Hmong dancers came and performed for us.

It was a fun but tiring day traveling to so many countries.

I did ask one of our service unit leaders to allow us

to pick our country earlier in the year

so that we have more time to plan and prepare.

We picked in January for a February event.
